Prior to joining South Square, Charlotte spent five years working for Citibank, first in investment management in Switzerland, and then in the Industrials coverage team in London where she gained a broad exposure to credit markets through her work on a wide array of corporate debt financing transactions and also a Chapter 11 restructuring.
Charlotte graduated with a first class degree in History from the University of Oxford where she graduated second in her year, winning the Gibbs Prize (Proxime Accessit) and the Robert Herbert Memorial Prize for the best undergraduate thesis in Global History.
After deciding to pursue a career at the Bar, Charlotte gained Distinctions on the GDL and Bar Course at City, University of London. She was awarded the David Karmel and Bedingfield Scholarships by Gray’s Inn (the Inn’s most prestigious scholarships) in each year of her training, and also won the Maitland Advocacy Prize.
Angus completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a Junior and then Senior Scholar, before going to read for an MPhil in Economics at Nuffield College, Oxford. At Oxford he was awarded both the prize for best overall performance in his first year and the George Webb Medley Prize for achieving the highest marks in the written papers in his second year. He was awarded the Lord Bowen Scholarship to study the PGDL at BPP Law School and the Lord Denning scholarship to study the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy.
Alongside his postgraduate studies, Angus worked for a leading tax silk where he gained experience of revenue law as well as broader commercial chancery work and also volunteered with the Free Representation Unit, representing clients before the First-tier Tribunal. Angus is an economist and research fellow at a leading Westminster think tank where he has presented his research at the highest levels of Government.
During their pupillages, Charlotte and Angus gained exposure to Chambers’ core areas of practice, including insolvency, restructuring, where they assisted with the contested McDermott and Aggregate restructuring plans, banking and finance work, commercial litigation, and company law matters.
Charlotte and Angus will both join chambers in October 2024.
