Charlotte Cooke and Rabin Kok appeared for the successful South African joint liquidators in Re Mirror Trading International (Pty) Ltd (in liquidation) [2026] EWHC 1286 (Ch).

Charlotte and Rabin are instructed by a team from Farrer & Co to act in South African law and UK law transaction avoidance claims brought in England & Wales under the jurisdiction in s426 of the Insolvency Act 1986. MTI was liquidated after having been found to run one of the largest ever cryptocurrency ponzi schemes in South Africa’s history.

On 29 May 2026, Leech J handed down a detailed 63-page judgment dismissing an application to strike out the proceedings brought by a respondent. Leech J dealt, in particular, with argument about the nature of an order under s 426 of the 1986 Act, various provisions of the South African Prescription Act 1969 and whether the Joint Liquidators’ claims were prescribed under South African law. He also dismissed wide ranging allegations of abuse of process against the Joint Liquidators and their solicitors.
