About Dr Andrew Sentance CBE
A former member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, Andrew Sentance is now a Senior Economic Advisor to PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers). He is also a respected writer and commentator on domestic and international economic affairs.
Andrew previously worked for British Airways (BA), where he became Chief Economist and was one of five senior leaders charged with turning the business around and preparing it for the future. He then joined the CBI as Economic Policy Director.
Andrew also served at the Bank of England during a period a historic financial turmoil and a time when the Committee’s decisions were subject to international scrutiny. He consistently advocated interest rate rises as a means of controlling increasing inflation after the initial shock of the crisis had been largely overcome.
A regular commentator on economic matters in media and his own blog The Hawk Talks, Andrew authored the book Rediscovering Growth: After the Crisis, which set out his views on the prospects for the UK and other western economies in the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2008/9.
As well as economics, Andrew has a keen insight into the business of the environment. Whilst at BA, he served as Head of Environmental Affairs, and also chaired the UK government group on the International Dimensions of Climate Change. He is a part-time Professor of Practice and Professor of Sustainable Business at Warwick Business School, a visiting professor at the University of London, and is a Vice-President of the Society of Business Economists.
